Congress is moving to vote on a budget reconciliation package that would put hundreds of billions of dollars toward detaining and deporting immigrants while crippling vital health, education, and nutrition programs for families and communities throughout the country. Some in Congress are trying to line the pockets of private prison companies and give Trump a blank check to further militarize immigration enforcement in our neighborhoods — while slashing critical programs like SNAP, Medicaid, and student loan relief.

As your constituent, I am writing to ask you to oppose any budget resolution that ends vital services in our communities to fuel the president’s anti-immigrant agenda. Immigrants are vital to our country's wellbeing, and so are programs that provide food and health insurance to children, offer young people financial aid to pursue higher education, and help make our cities and towns more resilient against climate change. All of these are being put at risk by the budget resolution currently under consideration. Immigrant families already are keeping children home from school, missing work, and skipping medical appointments because they fear they may be permanently separated during an immigration raid. Many of our immigrant neighbors and relatives have become especially vulnerable because Trump terminated programs that had provided them legal status and a foothold to contribute to our communities. Pouring billions of taxpayer dollars into expanding ICE enforcement, military deportation flights and private prisons, will only breed chaos and family disruptions in our communities while lining the pockets of private prison companies and military contractors. Please use your vote and your voice to oppose the destruction of our communities and immigrant families for the profit of billionaires and private prison executives in this year's appropriations process. Thank you.
