Every day, our immigrant neighbors in Chicago face a legal system stacked against them. The difference between staying with their families and being torn apart often comes down to one thing: having a lawyer.
Since 2017, the Legal Protection Fund (LPF) has connected community navigators with the legal expertise of the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), giving Chicagoans trusted information and free legal representation when they need it most. Over the last nine years through LPF, NIJC has represented Chicago residents in over 1,700 cases and given more than 3,700 legal screenings to keep families together and communities intact.
As Chicago faces constant, abrupt shifts in immigration policy and mounting attacks on due process, this funding is a lifeline.
Right now, the 2027 city budget is being decided and your alderperson needs to hear from you.
