Congress just passed  a spending stopgap measure to keep the government funded through mid-December of this year. The funding proposal extended Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding, without any additional funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or Border Patrol. The proposal, however, leaves out important restrictions on funding needed to stop the abuses perpetrated by federal agents with impunity.

Congress must use the funding process to take control over DHS and stop the abuses. ICE and Border Patrol continue to kill with impunity and lock up community members at record rates. Deaths in detention are reaching catastrophic levels. The Trump administration is expanding immigrant prison camps to warehouse-scale detention sites. Masked agents continue to invade and harm our communities. ICE’s violent rampage continues as we’ve seen with the fatal shootings of Silverio Villegas Gonzalez, Renée Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, Johan Sebastian Guerrero, and too many other beloved community members. 

More funding with no accountability, no transparency, and no restrictions means more of the same violence.

Your actions have an important impact. Earlier this year, Congress passed a historic funding bill that, for the first time, cut annual funding for ICE and Border Patrol. This was a landmark victory reached after decades of community advocacy and months of mobilizing in the wake of the fatal shootings and rising violence at the hands of federal agents. 

But the fight over federal funding continues. In June 2026, leaders in Congress used a partisan fast-track budget measure to shell out $38 billion for ICE and $26 billion for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to spend without any restrictions through the end of the Trump administration. This is on top of the around $100 billion these agencies are sitting on from last year’s blank check, which gutted healthcare and food assistance to supersize the deportation and detention machine.

Moreover, Congress has proposed a bill that would add another $30 billion to the bloated budgets of ICE and CBP through the FY27 appropriations cycle. Congress has a critical opportunity to again cut annual funding for ICE and Border Patrol, end impunity for rampant abuses and expanding detention, and redirect funds away from these agencies to invest in communities. 

Tell your Senators and Representatives: reject any new funding for ICE and Border Patrol through the annual appropriations process, and demand real accountability for these agencies. Not one more dollar.
